Hans sometimes needs to scan A3 documents. And when scanning old diaries he notices that using a flat bed scanner is not optimal, because the object cannot be completely flat and some areas are then distorted. Considering how much he want so scan in the future, he investes in an overhead scanner. It is bought from CDON for SEK 8812 on 2023-04-22.

Good
  • Scans A3 and books, fast.
  • Good scanning software, converts 16-page A3 booklet to PDF in some minutes.
Bad
  • USB 2.0 only.
  • The edge sensing function is sometimes wrong.

October 2009

Scanning documents a single page at a time in the flatbed scanner takes too long time. A more efficient scanner would be great and when Fujitsu released this S1500 Hans decides to buy one. SEK 7495 at Datacorner, Västerås 2009-10-23.

It is compact and it is both quick and easy to use.

Good

July 2009

Hans current 7-years old flatbed scanner Scanjet 5470c suddenly fails in the spring 2009. The error is related to the external power adapter or an internal fault. Since a newer scanner probably had a more modern software, Hans investes in a new similar scanner of the same brand. The difference is that now, there is no need for a slide scanning option. SEK 1490 at Media Markt, Västerås 2008-05-16.

Good

December 2007

Hans has tested flatbed scanners for scanning slides and negatives, but, he discovers that he also had about 20 APS-type of films. Since this Nikon scanner is able to scan APS films, he investes in it together with an APS adapter. In addition, the scanner gives a better quality for all film scans but most of all higher scanning speed than the flatbed scanners.

August 2007

Originally Hans bought the ScanMaker i800 in May for SEK 4236, but the quality of the scans is not very good compared to the flatbed scanner he had. If this is due to the mechanical unit or the software is difficult to tell. The scanner is returned to the shop, and instead Hans adds some money and buys the more expensive Epson for SEK 5996.

The scanning software SilverLight AI fulfills all expectations.

Good
  • Good image quality, dust removal Digital ICE
  • Very good scanning software LaserSoft Imaging SilverFast AI.
Bad
  • Slow when dust removal is used
  • Time consuming and tricky to mount the films and slides in the adapters.
